Dr Richard Zhu
Dentist – Wellington Point
When did you decide to become a dentist?
My path towards dentistry started when I went for braces towards the end of primary school. Growing up, I definitely did not have ‘perfect teeth’, and as a reformed sugar addict, I had quite a few dental visits in my childhood. The incredible care I received from various skilled dentists fueled my passion to pursue dentistry as a career!
What would you say is your dental philosophy?
In the world of dentistry, prevention is key, and I strongly believe that everyone deserves to be in the loop about their oral health. My approach involves empowering patients with knowledge about their unique situations, enabling them to make informed decisions about their oral well-being.
How do you keep up to date with techniques, technology and teachings?
I’m a bit of a nerd at heart, so my off-work hours often involve diving into study materials, participating in various dental study clubs, and honing new skills at dental courses.
As a dentist, what’s the best part of your day?
No doubt, connecting with amazing patients and assisting them with their oral health journey. It’s truly fulfilling to restore people’s confidence in their smiles.
What is the one thing you want patients to know about your work?
Seeing the dentist shouldn’t be scary! The dental field has evolved so much in the past few decades and at Floss Family Dental, we’ve embraced modern technology to make your dental visits as comfortable and relaxed as possible.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love keeping active at the gym, exploring new eateries with my mates, producing music, and hanging out with my doggy, Lily.
What is something people may not know about you?
I was the TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year in 2006.
What would you do if you weren’t a dentist?
Chances are I’d be diving into the world of electrical engineering. Interestingly, I had a two-year stint in an engineering degree before switching paths to the dental field, a decision I’m immensely glad about.
Describe yourself in 3 words
