Dr Rhys Dawson is a multi-talented and very thoughtful Dentist that started practicing at Floss Family Dental in 2020. Rhys is an Engineer-turned-Dentist, who decided to follow his heart into Dentistry so he could take care of people. A caring, thoughtful and skilled practitioner, Rhys holds a Bachelor of Oral Health (Dental Science) and a Master of Dentistry. Rhys truly does go the extra mile to take first-class care of his patients, and thinks about them long after they finish their appointment.
Passionate about people
You’d be hard pressed to find many Dentists who care as much about their patients as Rhys does. Rhys feels that he and his patients are a team, and that they share each other’s successes. He takes huge pride in the quality of his work, and loves having a chat and laugh with his patients.
Tell us about yourself
I was raised in a small farm just outside of Rockhampton.
When I was very young, I would be glued to the TV watching documentaries. Ever since I’ve just had this real passion for sciences and nature.
When did you decide to become a dentist?
When leaving school it was always a big choice between engineering and dentistry. I decided to pursue dentistry when I realised I loved to care for people and working more with my hands.
What would you say is your dental philosophy?
I think all things worth doing are worth doing well. My patient and I are a team; we share each other’s successes.
How do you keep up to date with techniques, technology and teachings?
I’ve been keeping up with online courses, study groups and case studies.
As a dentist, what’s the best part of your day?
The best part is getting to chat with my patients, have a laugh and provide excellent dentistry.
What is the one thing you want patients to know about your work?
I’d like my patients to know that I am thorough and patient in all of my work. I undergo all my work with longevity and quality in mind. I make sure my work results in my patients being healthy and happy.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to go to the gym, take my mountain bike out for a ride and catching up with friends & family.
What is something people may not know about you?
I was a qualified engineer and I am a 3D printing hobbyist on the side!
What would you do if you weren’t a dentist?
I would love to be a pilot!
